November brings the Beaver Full Moon, also known as the Full Mourning Moon or Reed Moon. The time of year represents the end of warmer times and the beginning of the harsh and cold winter. Early inhabitants hunted beaver for their warm fur to sustain them through the freezing winters. Beavers were busy during this time building dams so early inhabitants set traps before the rivers froze to ensure the needed beaver fur was obtained.

Pagans mark this time as the New Year, being the first full moon after Samhain and the last full moon prior to the Winter Solstice. This brings a time to mourn and release what has passed.

This full moon occurs with a total lunar eclipse in Taurus. A total lunar eclipse takes place when the Earth comes between the sun and the full moon and blocks the sun's direct rays from lighting up the moon. A lunar eclipse is a lot like a full moon, except it's about a thousand times more intense. Eclipses are agents of change. They encourage us to alter how we see the world. This includes our inner world (emotions, safety, instincts) and how we participate in the world (ego, identity, sense of self). As much as you’ll be craving peace and calm with the Taurus influence during this lunar cycle, be on high alert to expect the unexpected with the planet of revolution, Uranus, close by. If you’ve been avoiding making changes you could be forced to make a decision. If you’re someone who welcomes change, be open to stepping forward in a new direction.
